Kabeerdaas ji is categorized as a saint but his thoughts and compositions are not confined to religion, spirituality, meditation and bhajans alone. He also deals with worldly life – the character and behaviour of individuals; practices (and malpractices) rampant in society; evils of caste system which divides people into ‘high’ and ‘low’ classes, etc. He also goes in depth in denouncing superstitions and hypocrisy prevalent in practice of religions and sects in general. He considers them as obstructions in the way of health, peace and happiness of society. We should take all these things into account if we want to understand and interpret Kabeerdaas ji’s poetry correctly.

तू मत जाने बावरै, मेरा है सब कोय ।
पिंड प्रान से बँधि रहा, सो अपना नहिं होय ।।

Tu mat jaane baawarai, mera hai sab koy
Pind praan se bandhi rahaa, so apanaa nahin hoy

Kabeerdaasji considers guidance by the Guru is essential, rather indispensable for a person who wants to attain siddhi, that is Supreme Knowledge. The disciple can comprehend the right manner of penance and spiritual practices and succeed in attaining Supreme Knowledge only when the Guru shows the way. Otherwise, he might try through billions of births and rebirths, but, without the guidance of Guru, he would fail to reach his goal. According to Kabeerdaasji, a real Guru is compassionate and reaches out selflessly to sincere seekers to make their journey smooth and swift.

आब गई, आदर गया, नैनन गया सनेह ।।
ये तीनों तब ही गये, जबहि कहा कछु देह ।।

Aab gai, aadar gayaa, nainan gayaa saneh
Ye teenon tab hii gaye, jabahin kahaa kachhu deh

Kabeerdaas ji has always extolled charity but he is not in favour of begging for charity for oneself. By this type of begging a person not only denigrates himself (or herself) but also loses his prestige and respect in society. If he begs for money of people who loved him, their love for him also vanishes (because the basis of relationship changes from love to self-interest).
