Kabeerdaas ji is categorized as a saint but his thoughts and compositions are not confined to religion, spirituality, meditation and bhajans alone. He also deals with worldly life – the character and behaviour of individuals; practices (and malpractices) rampant in society; evils of caste system which divides people into ‘high’ and ‘low’ classes, etc. He also goes in depth in denouncing superstitions and hypocrisy prevalent in practice of religions and sects in general. He considers them as obstructions in the way of health, peace and happiness of society. We should take all these things into account if we want to understand and interpret Kabeerdaas ji’s poetry correctly.

देह खेह हो जायगी, कौन कहेगा देह ।
निश्चय कर उपकार ही, जीवन का फल येह ।।
Deh kheh ho jayegi, kan kahegaa deh
Nishchay kar upkaar hii,, Jeevan kaa phal yeh
A human being enters this world in the form of a body and tends to define his existence mainly in terms of the body only. He feels that the recognition he gains, the place he comes to hold in the society is all because of his outward personality and he takes great care to maintain it.
In this couplet Kabeerdaas ji points out that the real importance of a person lies not in his body but in his good deeds which benefit the society as a whole. Eventually the dust that is the body will return to dust and the influence he held in the society will come to nought. But he will still be remembered for his good deeds and they alone will justify his existence on this earth.
कुटिल बचन नहिं बोलिये, शीतल बैन ले चीन्हि ।
गंगाजल शीतल भये, परबत फोड़ा तीन्हि ।।
Kutil bachan nahin boliye, sheetal bain le cheenhi
Gangaajal sheetal bhaye, parabat phodaa teenhi
In his couplets on social behaviour Kabeerdaas ji has repeatedly laid emphasis on softness of speech. He says our speech should (even in difficult or unpleasant situation) never be harsh and angry. It should always be gentle and sweet. With a calm temper and soft speech, you can handle even tough situations just as the cool and gentle stream of river Gangaa (Ganges) can break its way through hard rocks.
