Thus Spake Kabeer 25

Kabeerdaas ji is categorized as a saint but his thoughts and compositions are not confined to religion, spirituality, meditation and bhajans alone. He also deals with worldly life – the character and behaviour of individuals; practices (and malpractices) rampant in society; evils of caste system which divides people into ‘high’ and ‘low’ classes, etc. He also goes in depth in denouncing superstitions and hypocrisy prevalent in practice of religions and sects in general. He considers them as obstructions in the way of health, peace and happiness of society. We should take all these things into account if we want to understand and interpret Kabeerdaas ji’s poetry correctly.

हिन्दी में पढ़िये

तेरे दिल में राम है, ताहि न देखा जाय ।
दिल देहुरा के खबर नहिं, पत्थर ते कह पाय ।।

Tere dil men Raam hai, tehi na dekha jaay
Dil dehura ke khabar nahin, patthar te kah paay

In this couplet also, Kabeerdaas ji asks us to seek the Supreme Divine Spirit within our heart rather than in the stone temples and idols in the outside world. He points out that we human beings remain oblivious of the existence of God within the temple that is our heart. Seeking Him in stones will be a fruitless search. Kabeerdaas ji also implies that the outer world is itself an illusion created by Maya. So, it is no use searching for God there. We should strive to reach Him within ourselves only.
Kabeerdaas ji, again in this couplet, is referring to the abstract Divine (Brahman) as Ram.

सुख के माथे सिल परै, नाम हृदय ते जाय ।
बलिहारी व दुक्ख की, पल पल नाम रटाय ।।

Sukh ke maathe sil parai, naam hrudaya te jaay
Balihaarii v dukkh kii, pal pal naam rataay

As Kabeerdaas ji has said in another couplet, people call out to God only when they are facing problems and want His help. During better times he is too busy enjoying his life to even think of God. In this couplet he wishes good fortune to be destroyed since it diverts our minds away from God. He thankfully welcomes adversity because it makes us think of God all the time.
